FA>. Hi! Glad to see people still making their way in here after all this time. I don't know you personally but I feel like I saw your name in one of the old chat logs that I posted. Were you from S8 or Miniclan?

The chat has a been a bit slow since the new year, I think it's just been a hard year. I try to keep a tab open for this place and check in from time to time and say hi to anyone new that shows up. Seems like everyone that has come here has kept in contact with some other chatters, but only like 1 or 2 each so it's hard to spread this place. If you know any others, please send them a link here :)

Hi, I'm still alive all. I saw some nostalgic yt video of some old-school internet community and then thought of you all. I'm actually a web developer now, even manage own web team. Back when I used to chat on here I didn't even know HTML besides how to color my name in order to get RPing!

Anyway, to any of you that read this and recognize my old ass, I hope you are doing well and still find ways to stay cool and creative.

gedoena> Yeah, mine is due for her heart worm stuff when she goes back for her big Valley Fever followup in August. And the rattlesnake vaccine really just gives us more time to get her treated if she is bit, but I'll take it.

Got distracted by life again - stepdaughter got a kitten and I got lured away by my shiny new MacBook. Been trying to work on this web domain more as a whole. Harder coming up with ideas, but I made a little AIM chat. Still tweaking it.

River> Wow...guess we don't need rattlesnake vaccines around here!

EVERYONE - get the heartworm one each year (or 3 years depending on how you do it). Treatment horrible and lengthy (and actually suffering is terrible).

gedoena> Yeah, I keep up to date too but overall I'm trying to stay off my glass rectangle of doom. The dog is now jumping into my car without me having to lift her butt, which she hasn't done in forever. It's slow but steady progress for her. Just got her rattlesnake vaccine, yay

Nick> Man do I understand it being a blah time. I think this year is just not it :/ Glad to see you in here again.

Think I'll try to hang around somewhat this weekend, maybe try to think of somewhere else to promote the chat.

Great news about playing! Your mechanism for getting her to swallow the pills is ingenious.
Glad to hear you are doing some relaxing things. I am at least reading my AP news summary every day. And then hear things from my husband as well as my father and brother (who always turn it into a debate, even though in theory we seem to more or less agree on most things, but then I get to feel like an idiot for not knowing everything/having read from multiple sources). I need to focus on work and kids and also sleep sometimes!

gedoena> I think you were right about it still being the illness. She's kind of gone from 80% recovered to 90%. She's being a whiny brat again, playing again (sanded down her lips with 15 minutes of the herding ball), and just is overall more playful and energetic. As far as the pill, I got a refill of the meds in a different format (smaller more compact tablets) that are working well. I shove one in a space in her mouth, and then immediately paste over that spot with PB. She's hesitant about taking food directly from me since her illness, so I can't hide it in something and then give it to her. She still doesn't LOVE it, but she seems more forgiving of the twice daily ritual now.

I'm somewhat successfully trying to stay away from the bad parts of the internet these days. Doing gardening, coloring, trying to get back into drawing. Some days I still doomscroll :/

River> I'm sorry to hear you are having a difficult time...I've been feeling similar for some similar reasons lately too.

It sounds to me more like she is still not feeling well than turning 2...I know that is technically not a puppy any more but not exactly old. I'm not an expert but I think the hiding might be a sign of not feeling well (although the dogs I have had were more likely to be melodramatic when not feeling well, I know some dogs hide). On the other hand, it could be she started doing that while not feeling well and it became a habit. It is amazing how quickly something can become a routine or preference for them, even if they likely don't remember why. Hope she continues to improve!

I wish that all dog meds would come as chewy things. Does peanut butter help get the pills down? Or cheese? My mom buys pill pockets and her dog is crazy about them.
gedoena
08:52:05 PM MST, Monday, February 17, 2025
gedoena> Luckily no restrictions on activity. She's very active still, but just seemed subdued in smaller ways. She doesn't play with toys anymore and she prefers to hide when she's snoozing. I can't tell what's the sickness and what is her just getting past the age of 2. But she's doing great overall, besides her disdain at taking the pill twice a day.

I need to try promoting this place again, but I've just been in such a funk the past few months. Part of it is just my standard season depression, other parts are the world, my work, my personal life. Trying to stay off the current day internet lately (IE all the various social medias) and be outside more, or coloring. If I need to be on the internet lately, I feel like it's better if I'm on some website NOT owned by the big 5 or 10, whatever it is.

Blaaaaaaaaaaah. Ugh.

Wow, it's been a long time since I checked here... River - sorry to hear she had such a hard time! Glad to hear they at least have some treatment. Does she have to rest during the 8 months, or can she do whatever she feels like? When we foster-to-adopted Ivy she had heartworm which also takes many months to treat and get verified as healthy. For chunks of that she was supposed to rest and definitely not run or jump. Tell an active young dog that!? There were a few days of abject misery right after shots but other than that she did NOT follow doctor's orders much... we had to take her on a leash into our fenced yard to stop her from running around,.
gedoena
05:08:19 PM MST, Thursday, February 13, 2025
gedoena> Yeah, I think she was hiding whatever pain she was in for quite a while as she tested high for the disease. She was limping and cowering and she's normally chasing deer. She'll be on the antifungals for the next 8 months, but there's a possibility it could be the rest of her life. I'm hoping the 8 month dose knocks it out, and I'm hoping by then the Valley Fever vaccine for dogs will be out. They've been working on it the past 7 years or so. Today is her last day on prednisone, so no more super hungry/thirsty dog. She's getting better day by day, she's starting to play again, but she's still hiding/chilling/sleeping more than usual. She turned 2 this past Wednesday ^_^
River

River - just checked this again. Hope she is all better now! It is horrible when they are hurting - even more so if we can't figure out what is wrong. I do think it is helpful to have a dog that shows their pain rather than hides it (though I think my dog has perhaps exaggerated at times...)
gedoena
10:54:24 AM MST, Thursday, January 23, 2025
gedoena and Nick> Thank you ^_^

She's an almost 2 yr old Aussie and started limping and then just yelping and crying. She spent her time shaking and hiding. 2 vet visits, but the second time we got sent home with antifungals and a steroid after testing very positive for valley fever. She's not 100% but she is a hungry hungry hippo and no longer crying and hiding. My heart couldn't take the crying.

I think I only went to one Gathering (my mind keeps telling me 2, but can't remember any other than NY). It was nice. I remember Greg Weismann saying in his speech to us that it was too much of a private club (I think he was referring to the expense to attend).
I wonder if this would have held up over the years as we all got older and had/have a lot of other things going on in our lives.

My kids have watched Gargoyles, but I don't know if I would take a family trip to another city (much less make costumes, etc) though I can imagine some people still would.

The most memorable fanfiction story I ever read was one called "All Through The Night" written in 1995 by Melissa "Merlin Missy" Wilson. It was a crossover of Gargoyles, the X-Files, Batman TAS, and Beauty and the Beast (the 80s version with Linda Hamilton and Ron Perleman).

That sounds like a chaotic mess of nonsense, but whoever Melissa Wilson was, she made it work surprisingly well.

It's still hosted over at GFW. I linked to it in my name.

I never fell prey to A Fan's genius marketing scheme, unfortunately. I mostly read Christine Morgan and The Gargoyles Saga collaborative fanfic. I also read some Dylan P Blacquiere (Stormy?).

It's kinda crazy how many people in the early days used their own names. I looked up Christine Morgan and, of course, she's an author. Looked up Dylan and he's a neurologist. Crazy stuff.

Sounds fun ;). I am terrible on cell phones. Half the time I think I live in the 90s still. Like when I can't figure out how to do something on my data phone... or when I am shocked (and unwilling) to be expected to use an app to do something like use coupons. One store's app was called something like "clip coupons". I kept asking where the coupon flier was so I could clip them. Of course...my husband does most of the shopping!

Yeah, I didn't figure today would be busy, it really only picks up on the weekends. There wasn't anything planned for today so much, I was just trying to promote the room again before the 30tha anniversary.

I created the room about a year ago and then didn't do anything with it until after Carlemot found his way in here. Then I figured I'd start promoting closer to he anniversary of the show premiere.

Now I'm 41. I've spent the last almost 20 years getting concussed and smoking weed. This chat room is actually bringing back some memories and whatnot I haven't thought of since before I actually got into the wrestling industry.

Who was it that was head of the group that ran the last Gathering in Williamsburg?

Adam> I mean... found out of a refusal to play by others' rules... It's almost poetic we're still going while everywhere else has either faded into the ether of (if lucky) the Wayback Machine or is a weird shell of what it once was.

I still find it amusing that the last surviving HTML Gargoyles-themed chatroom was started simply because one person was dissatisfied with any chatroom she herself didn't control, and picked her favorite people from the other chatrooms and took them with her.

It's obviously not that now, and hasn't been for years, but still, that was how it started, and now (aside from this bit of nostalgia-bait), it's all that remains.

River> Yeah, because you mostly were in Mini, right?
Nick
05:15:55 PM MST, Monday, October 21, 2024
YellowBerry> Yep! At the top of it's internet popularity, there were several chat rooms with similar designs for different groups (and in some cases "Clans"). (All pretty much derivatives of the person who did the original design. Gotta word it right because we do have a guy under the name Whoever. He'd probably reply, but he was in a part of Florida that got hit by the 'canes.)

s8 was the one that was, for the most part, the "Official" chat room for Gargoyles. A number of people who had been involved with the show were regulars for quite a while. Gargoyles Fans Website (or GFW for short) was the big fan website with loads of user-made content. (Mostly stories or art and whatnot.) But it also had a chatroom, which had it's own collection of people. Then there was the original biggest of the "Clans", Mini-Clan. They had their own chat and whatnot. (I, honestly, rarely went there.) And the last one not represented in the chat version options, is the Twilight Clan (TCG for short, and NOT named for the f'n book/movie series). We started in 2004-5ish, and are still chugging along with "our own thing".

The differences in the chats were mostly that s8 was an out of character chat. Role Playing was mostly discouraged. The other three had their own RPing universes. GFW was pretty normal. Can't really speak on Mini. And in TCG... we've always been the renegades. :P

Yellowflowerevy> That is so cool! When I made this chat, I always hoped at least one new person would wander in here :) This is pretty much what it was like back in the day. I tried to faithfully recreate the style of the main three chat rooms. To further enhance the experience, just imagine viewing this on an old desktop computer, probably with a screen resolution of 800x600, on dialup. Those were the heyday of the web based chats lol

Normally I'd recommend going to the Internet Archive and searching for the three chats, they have some days archived. But it seems they're still suffering from a DDOS and most pages won't load.

Nick> Yeah, once the chat rooms are set up, there's not really much in the way of maintenance LOL. And no, nothing on Facebook. This past year I've been trying to stay away from traditional social media and stick more to simple websites. If you're on facebook and want to post a link on Saturday, go for it. From the website statistics, it looks like the link has been shared somewhere on there as a few people have been redirected from the site.

I was pondering how to promote the site with my stepdaughter and she said "what about instragram and snapchat?". I just shook my head and had a hard time explaining that was not the most likely audience to find former chatters.

I have been faithfully collecting the comics as they come out, and have a few shirts and all the current NECA figurines. I wish some of the comic covers could be posters because they're pretty awesome and I would love to hang them behind the figurines. Until recently I didn't have a dedicated space for the geekery but since I bought this house in 2022 I have been filling it with my hobbies and such. I've been collecting some of the NECA figures. Currently I have Demona, Bronx, Xanatos (not in armor), and Hudson. I asked for Xanatos for Christmas and my husband got me Hudson as a bonus. I think Hudson probably looks best out of all of them. I've thought about getting others, but I don't really like the way some of them look :/ I'm really hoping for either an Owen or a Puck figure. I feel like that would complete my set. I haven't found a good way to have them set up without awkward posing or falling over though. And my elderly cat, Tori, is constantly knocking them over like some god descending from the heavens as she passes over the shelf to her resting spot.

I try to buy any new t-shirts, tanks, or hoodies from Teepublic so I can be a nerd. I have a Goliath Gym tank (linked) that I like to wear. Unfortunately, I haven't had anyone mention knowing the show, whereas when I wear my Firelord Iroh shirt, I get way more comments.

I did recently move to the ol family estate (a creaky farmhouse on a nice bit of acreage) where I shall continue being a bit of a bohemian weirdo working on a hardware store just more rural. 46 here.I suffered a compression fracture in my spine about 10 years back and get flareups now and then. I also went bald, although that started in my 20s.

One weird thing that happened earlier this year was that my toe started hurting badly enough that I was having trouble walking. I had no idea what could possibly be going on until my doctor said it was gout. I was floored, but then remembered that my 13-year old had recently developed a taste for livermush and I'd been indulging myself. So much for that, I guess.

Luckily, I've had no need for head meds, but I'm a guy. As you know, none of us are self-reflective enough to develop neurosis.

GFW: Disney World (With the occasional person flashing the in-ride camera)

Yeah I never really roleplayed either. I just liked to hang around to chat. I remember a group chatting in IRC and slapping each other with trout I believe.

I agree that the chat room just seemed to be for people who like Gargoyles, rather than about Gargoyles. I feel like I appreciated the fandom almost more than the show itself, especially as the years went on. I've found other favorite pieces of fiction, but Gargoyles always holds a special place because of the community.

After the initial burst of nostalgia-driven interest, this appears to have tapered off.

It's almost like there's nothing new to say about the old show, and little appetite for discussing podcasts and back pain like the middle-aged people we are.

I have been absolutely terrible at maintaining any presence in online communities. I think the Gargoyles bunch was the only place it was relatively effortless.

Hah, well, I have a slightly better grasp on yesterday's events than those twenty-some years ago. But this text box sure is comfy.

Leo> That makes sense. I read the comment rooms but almost never dropped a comment. The only time I did was when I found out another girl in my high school knew someone in the chat. Coyote was the person that she knew I believe.

I first started out in TGS / Station 8 around 2001. I participated more the “comment rooms” which were slower paced. I think Chat rooms were a little more intimidating, My brain isn’t wired to keep track of the multiple convos and I don’t have the talent for on the fly role playing either so I more of a chat lurker
